One question I get asked a lot is … how does the process work? It usually starts by sending in this form or calling me. Describe your situation and what you would like to accomplish. As a second step, I typically recommend a test project. Nothing beats an actual project for finding out whether it's a good fit and whether you like the results.
All Work Is Guaranteed Most writing is priced by the project, not by the hour. That works to your advantage since most clients would rather not pay for multiple drafts, should those be needed. Of course, if you find that you’re simply not getting what you expected (or more) you don’t pay.
Once we agree on project scope, you can send me (or point me to) whatever background materials would be helpful. Those could include your website, competitive websites, articles in publications, previous white papers, brochures or case studies, PowerPoint decks, analyst reports — in other words, the usual suspects.
We will then schedule an interview, to be done over the phone or in person. Before the interview I will send you a list of written questions to help guide the discussion. Once the interview is done, I usually recommend an outline or an abstract (sometimes both). It may seem like an extra step, but it can avoid a lot of extra back-and-forth downstream. Then comes the first draft and we iterate from there.
How long does this all take? Rush projects are always an option but it’s usually a good idea to budget a week from the interview to first draft of the outline/abstract — and then two weeks from abstract/outline approval to first draft of the project.
If you like, please feel free to attach an existing draft document. I don't mind coming into a project that has already been started by someone else. If you wish to discuss price or any other aspect of my services (or your marketing needs) please contact me.
